THARGOS - the beginning
The THARGOS-History goes back to early 1995. We started with performing slow Black Metal and even at this time we already did not give any fuck about the trend of facepainted fast Black Metal. THARGOS recorded a rehearsal called NACHTWIND, containing 4 tracks of slow performed black metal, similar to that stuff of CULTES DES GOULES which is Cy's Band nowadays. They also recorded a more professional demo in 1996 and named it RISE OF THE DRAGON. Within one day roundabout 10 songs has been recorded and mixed. You couldn't use any of this recordings, but that was great fun (for us, the mixing engineer hated us). 1995 and 1996 were years of experiments and funny, but you really couldn't listen very long to that stuff.
Interlude with WIZZARD
1997 we get in touch with WIZZARD. These finnish guys were meant to give some concerts in replacement of COUNTESS, which toured with SABBAT and mighty BARATHRUM in 1997. But just the vocalist of WIZZARD, Teemu, had the time to make it to germany. Front and Cy joined WIZZARD and performed that tour with Teemu, and it was great. For Cy a musical dream has become true. He allready loved BARATHRUM, and sharing stage with Demonos Sova was an honour to him. Later Cy and Front recorded a full length album with WIZZARD, but for now the story ended.
Before we were the godz in green
THARGOS was envolving slowly. We rehearsed, played gigs and rehearsed, but we didn't get the kick. We had Andrealphux on bass and as vocalist. He left us later to continue with LEGION OF SADISM. And we decided that it is time to follow one of these wise words of a friend: get up your ass, Front, he told us, go on, be a vocalist. He did. And Cy decided to put more work at the conceptional behind THARGOS. He wanted to create some fucked up Rock and Roll. Bitch Music. The most evil punk music people have heard. He wanted to provocate everybody, and at least the music was so hard as the words were and we suddenly had an own style. We recorded BLOODGOAT and finally we knew what it meant to play heavy rock and roll.
BLACK METAL GODZ
We provocated everybody, including the black metal scene with thrash metal songs we called BLACK METAL GODZ. We also used words like corpsepainted kids and said that natural selection is the only thing at earth which counts. Well, if we had right or not doesn't matter for anybody anymore. But between 1999 and 2002 everybody hated us. Cy got tons of murder threadings, hate mails and shitty guestbook entrys. We even couldn't play everywhere. In Stuttgart, an south german city, the organisation of an gig told us that it is to risky to play and they didn't want to have problems with the audience. They cancelled us. It was a bit unfair, but hej, we provoked everybody. At least we god a big audience in northern germany and people loved us there. Thanks to Hamburg, Berlin and Bad Oldesloe we continued. While this time, Distortion joined us. He got his name cause he just played distorted bass guitars.
The godz in green arrive
We really enjoyed that BLOODGOAT release and wrote more hectic and heavy stuff.
And while we believed that THARGOS will never release any CDs at all, something happened.
The sister label to BARBARIAN WRATH was born.
That label was called WITCHES BREW, after a Manilla road song, i guess.
This label was totally into thrash metal and the Boss liked our stuff. Cy didn't know
how it all happened, but suddenly WITCHES BREW called him and told him, that we should record
our debut album for their label. Cy couldn't stop feasting. Of course, in 2002 WITCHES
BREW was small label, but Cy knewed that the label would envolve very quickly
At 23 March 2003 THARGOS debut album KILLFUKK has been released by WITCHES BREW.
The godz and professional music
At that point of time, THARGOS made mistakes. I (it's me, Cy who wrote this) am still ashamed of this mistakes. We thought that THARGOS could be something more cool than it was. We sent our CDs round the world for reviews and thought this was good. Cy hardly learned that all what happened was that we had some good review, some bad reviews and at least tons of downloads via music sharing portals. It was unfair to our label which told us not to send that review cds out. However, the label had right, and we hadn't. That's a fact. Front then decided to move on in a more professional direction but Cy still remained where he was. It was difficult to rehearse and while Front was pushing the band forward, Cy was depressed. We lost our label or left it, nobody can tell this. I am just sure, WITCHES BREW wouldn't had brought out another CD of us. I guess, in fact this was THARGOS death at least.
An interlude in green
In 2004 we recorded a 7 inch for the upcoming label Neoklassick. That guy did also do some t-shirts and longsleeves for us. We played a small tour through germany, the Neoklassick Tour, and tried to sell all that stuff. At the end Neoklassick stopped everything out of personal reasons. The vinyl wasn't selling very good, although it looked good like hell! Green vinyl, great cover and everything sounded analogue. However, we all were dissapointed and unsatisfied at the end.
The final chapter
It became all more difficult. Front was now a professional musician and Cy wasn't. Rehearsing was diffcult, cause Cy lived in Frankfurt which was 600 km far from the rehearsing room. With no equipment and no label the guys said: We will never surrender! and formed their own label, Possessed Records. SALEM CITY has been recorded, professionally painted and covered by an incredible comic artist and finally pressed. The album is good. But we had no friends at all who supported us. Cy thought about releasing another band, but then burned out and had a nervous breakdown. He stopped Possessed Records and Front and Cy decided to lay Thargos to rest cause their expectations of a band has developed in different directions.
The end?
Cy had reinvented some music he wrote in 1998. A bassdriven, dark music project called DOMINATION.
He calls it CULTES DES GOULES and now he joined
BARBARIAN WRATH.
Front started another Thrash Metal project GUMO MANIACS.
He gave the permissions and rights to continue with THARGOS to Cy and it looks like
that he never want to continue with THARGOS again.
Well, Cy thinks he has his reasons. GUMO MANIACS is now exactly the band he always wanted, a live band.
THARGOS is no more, but it may be or not that Cy decides one day to continue with other Thrash people and then returns to the stage. Maybe.
